BIGGS, CA (YSBC) - The Biggs Wolverines celebrated their first winning streak of the 2026 season as they held on for a gritty 17-7 win over the Portola Tigers on Oct. 23.
It was a must-win game for Biggs after they came off two-big road games at Quincy and Williams in previous weeks.
Portola ended a lengthy-opening drive of the game with a one-yard touchdown rush by Tigers senior running back Oscar Rocha.
Rocha was the primary rusher for Portola in the game as he profusely had success of running the ball straight up the gut until the Wolverines stopped him.

Biggs’ offense took a few drives to get in rhythm in the first half as they struggled through a couple of turnovers.
The Wolverines got on the scoreboard in the second quarter in the final minute as junior Hudson Brewer prepared for the homecoming dance early as he dazzled the Tigers with a couple spins and quick steps to the end zone from 28-yards out.

Brewer had 75 rushing yards in the game as Biggs and Portola were tied at the half.
The Wolverines turned the ball over in the first snaps of the second half as the Tigers recovered a fumble on the Biggs 42-yard line.
Portola was able to drive down to the Wolverines one-yard line but the defense by Biggs came up with a huge goal-line stand that forced the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs.

Wolverines head coach Eddie Del Rio expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the defense has been a vital part in keeping Biggs in games throughout the past few weeks.
The Wolverines have multiple two-way athletes that play both sides of the ball each Friday night.
Biggs’ seniors Cameron Kroupa and Ayden Owen led the charge for the Wolverines defensively in the win as they combined for 24 tackles, eight for a loss.
Biggs took the lead in the opening minute of the fourth when Brewer hit senior wide receiver Brayden Martin for a 57-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline.
Kroupa and the Wolverines defense broke through the Portola line and forced a turnover on downs on the following possession.

Brewer extended the Biggs lead 17-7 after he kicked a 19-yard field goal inside of three minutes left in the game.
Brewer ended the game with an interception and the Wolverines cruised into victory formation for the win. He threw two interceptions on the offensive side of the ball.
He completed four passes for 107 yards in the air. Brewer told YSBC that tossing interceptions is going to be something he tries to limit moving forward as he is still adjusting to the position.
“I’ve been throwing too many, I have to read the field better and make better decisions,” Brewer said.
Up next for Biggs is another gritty rival as they hit the road and play at Maxwell on Friday.

This game has implications on seeding in the Division V where it can be assumed the winner will get the fourth seed and final home game for the postseason.
These squads met twice last season in Maxwell and the Panthers edged out close wins over the Wolverines.
Kroupa told YSBC the game against Maxwell is exciting because of the rivalry between the two squads.
“We’re a better team at facing adversity last year because we’ve done it all year, so we want to keep adding to it,” Kroupa said.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
