GRIDLEY (YSBC) - It was a rough week for our teams in the Westside League as both squads fell to 0-2 in league play. Biggs picked up a big road victory.

Las Plumas (Oroville) 41, Live Oak 6 - It was another rough week offensively for the Live Oak Lions as they accumulated less than 200 yards of total offense while Las Plumas doubled the amount of yardage towards the win.

Live Oak had three turnovers, but a positive sign was sophomore quarterback Ethan Petrone completed seven passes for 127 yards in the air.

Lions junior Izzy Jurado had the most all-purpose yards (133) for Live Oak in the loss as most of his offense came from hauling in four receptions from Petrone, including the only touchdown for the Lions in the first half.

Live Oak will get their first Westside League win as Oroville no longer fields a varsity team.

The Lions next game will be on Oct. 30 as they host Orland with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Orland 34, Gridley 28 - The Bulldogs dropped their second-straight league game that was within reach of a victory.

Gridley head coach Dan Zumwalt expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the Bulldogs had a slow first half that was uncharacteristic.

The Bulldogs trailed by 21 at the half and grinded their way back into the game.

Gridley’s comeback came a little too late against the Trojans but Zumwalt was happy that his team ended better than they did the previous week against Las Plumas.

Bulldogs senior running backs Manny Sandoval and Benny Dewsnup both rushed over 90-yards each in the loss. Dewsnup also led Gridley with 13 tackles defensively and a pass deflection.

Gridley looks to get its first league win on Friday as they host Corning with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Biggs 24, Williams 12 - Biggs was the lone squad in the area that picked up a win on the road and it was a big one in the Mid-Valley League.

The Wolverines victory over Williams kept them in contention for an MVL title, but more importantly kept their ability to get a home playoff game possible in the postseason.

Biggs regained some comfort and health back on the sidelines as they healthy Wolverines clipped the Yellowjackets to a shutout in the second half.

Biggs junior quarterback Hudson Brewer controlled the offense with some completed passes and grit runs across the board. Brewer finished with 46 yards passing and 54 rushing.

Wolverines senior running back Cashten Acosta ran for 77 yards on the ground and had nine tackles in the win.

The Biggs defense frustrated and pressured Williams with 13 tackles for loss in the win.

Wolverines head coach Eddie Del Rio told YSBC that it was a big win for the program over a competitive team like the Yellowjackets.

Biggs hosts Portola on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
