GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Titans youth football program collected two victories over the Las Plumas Jr. Thunderbirds on Saturday, Oct. 17, with the 8U and 12U teams earning wins while the 14U squad suffered a loss.

The Titans' 12U team continued its winning streak, defeating Las Plumas 42-6 at home under head coach Jason Davis Sr.

The Titans took control early when Holden Papa returned the opening kickoff to the 5-yard line. Kobe Neal scored a few plays later, and Levi Mowles added the extra points.

Gridley's defense helped extend the lead when defensive lineman Jesse Heredia recovered a fumble and returned it 35 yards to the Las Plumas 3-yard line. Boss Davis scored on the following play, giving the Titans a 16-0 advantage.

Davis also contributed through the air, connecting with Jacob Ceballos for a 41-yard touchdown pass and Papa for an 18-yard score.

Casen Gruber added another touchdown pass, finding Tyler Smith for a 43-yard scoring play.

The Titans' defense recorded two interceptions. Mowles intercepted one pass, while Gruber returned another 68 yards for the team's final touchdown.

The victory followed a 40-0 shutout of the Central Valley Jr. Falcons on Oct. 10 in Shasta Lake.

During that contest, four Titans recorded the first rushing touchdowns of their youth football careers. Nova Sharrock, Oscar Navarro, Rush Cooprider and Isaac Cote each reached the end zone for the first time. Ashton Hospers and Holden Papa also scored touchdowns.

The 12U Titans will close their regular season Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host Corning at 5 p.m. in Gridley. The team hopes to continue its season with a playoff appearance Oct. 31.

The 8U Titans also delivered a defensive performance against Las Plumas, securing a 13-0 shutout under head coach Jesse Vasquez.

Quarterback AJ Luquin scored on a designed running play, while Jeremiah Enriquez added a touchdown on a 4-yard run.

Gridley's defense held the Jr. Thunderbirds to just two first downs throughout the game and forced three turnovers.

Adrian Vasquez led the defensive effort with three sacks and two forced fumbles. John Whitney added a sack, while Jake Ryan recorded a tackle for loss.

The shutout marked the second consecutive scoreless game for the 8U defense following a 29-0 victory over Central Valley on Oct. 10.

In 14U action, the Titans struggled with turnovers in their 32-0 loss to Las Plumas.

Head coach Aaron Lumsden reported that his team competed throughout the contest but committed six turnovers, preventing the Titans from establishing momentum against the Jr. Thunderbirds.

Alan Amador, Anthony Flores-Hernandez and Lane Mowles served as team captains for the game.
