LIVE OAK, CA (YSBC) - The Gridley Bulldogs conquered another series win over the Live Oak Lions on Sept. 29 in a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-18, 25-11) during Westside League play.

Gridley moved 2-1 in league play with the victory and one game above .500 on the year with the win.

The Bulldogs won their 15th consecutive match over Live Oak and head coach Elizabeth Ayon expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that they are making a push into league, where they want to be in a competitive spot for the postseason.

Gridley controlled a lot of the momentum throughout most seasons of the match, but Live Oak has been a team that has improved tremendously over the past few seasons.

Lions head coach Michelle Felkins told YSBC she came into the first year atop the program and just said she wants the girls to have fun.

She added a key point of building success around the program has included positive support on the floor.

Gridley juniors Iris Counihan and Kambelle Tolman led the offensive assault for the Bulldogs as they combined for 27 kills in the match.

Gridley junior outside hitter Madison Carey led with 13 digs and freshman opposite hitter Austyn Deal had 10 digs in the victory.

The Bulldogs went ahead and swept Las Plumas on Oct. 1 and had the opportunity to clinch a share of first place in the Westside league as they hosted Orland on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The Lions grinded out a five-set win against Oroville on Oct. 1 and picked up their second win in Westside League play.

Live Oak secured their 12 win of the season in the victory over Oroville and that is the most wins the Lions program has had since they had 12 wins in 2017.

Live Oak had the opportunity to secure their 13th win of the year as they hosted Orland on Tuesday, and traveled to Oroville and took on Las Plumas on Thursday.
