GRIDLEY, CA (YSBC) – Live Oak 50, Quincy 18 - This was the first season opener the Live Oak Lions have won since the 2023 season and they had a lot of positives come from their victory over the Trojans.

Live Oak last put up 50-plus points in their 2023 opener against Oroville, but the game on Aug. 28 displayed the potential of what the offense can accomplish this season.

The Lions put up over 450 rushing yards in the win and head coach Robert Tilton couldn’t have been happier with the result.

Tilton expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the holes for the running lanes were opened up by the tremendous play of the offensive line.

The experience of the offensive line that has built trust within the past couple of seasons is a huge advantage for the Lions.

Defensively, Live Oak had six tackles for loss and recovered two fumbles by Quincy.

The Lions will have another opportunity to display their improvements this week as they host Williams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Biggs 35, Weed 0 - The Biggs Wolverines shutout the Weed Cougars for the second-straight year as they were victorious 35-0 on Aug. 28.

Biggs head coach Eddie Del Rio told YSBC it was a good start to the season and there were a lot of positives throughout the game.

Del Rio said he was happy with the offensive production in the win over Weed.

Wolverines senior quarterback Dennis Dewhurst completed five passes for 81 yards and a touchdown pass.

Senior running back Cashten Acosta rushed for 107 yards on four carries and junior running back Hudson Brewer added 89 yards on the ground with three rushes.

The Biggs defense was led by senior linebacker Cameron Kroupa with nine tackles and Dewhurst added seven.

The Wolverines will have their home opener on Friday as the defending CIF Division 7-AA Champions (Redding Christian) come to Butte county.

Del Rio told YSBC it’s going to be a big test, but it’s going to be a battle tested game for the Wolverines.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
