Vendors showcase duck calls, hunting gear and outdoor products during the 2025 California State Duck Calling Championship and Outdoor Expo at Memorial Park in Colusa. 

COLUSA, CA (MPG) - Duck callers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts will return to Colusa this weekend as Kittle’s Outdoor & Sport hosts the California State Duck Calling Championship and Outdoor Expo on Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, at Memorial Park.

The two-day event will feature state and regional calling competitions, youth contests, vendors, food and live entertainment, with participants and vendors expected from California and across the country.

Competition begins Saturday morning, with announcements at 9 a.m. and calling contests getting underway between 9 and 10 a.m. The weekend includes the Butte Sink Regional Duck Calling Qualifier, a sanctioned qualifying event for the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas, along with California state duck and speck calling competitions.

Sunday will feature the California State Duck Calling Championship and youth competitions. Junior and intermediate contests are free for youth participants.

Stuart McCullough of Los Banos, the 2025 California State Duck Calling Champion, will serve as master of ceremonies for this year’s event. McCullough is a multiple state champion, longtime competitive caller, teacher and call maker. He also became the second Californian to win the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Pat Kittle of Kittle’s Outdoor & Sport said interest surrounding the Colusa competition continues to grow, drawing callers, vendors and hunting enthusiasts from outside California.

“The group that has gathered around this state calling contest has grown tremendously,” Kittle said. “The proof is having out-of-state vendors, duck hunting enthusiasts reaching out and wanting to be a part of it. It’s a great thing for Colusa.”

New and returning vendors will be part of this year’s outdoor expo, including Foiles Migrators, an Illinois duck call manufacturer, and a returning vendor traveling from Florida.

Kittle’s Outdoor will also introduce Eberhart Decoys, a duck decoy manufacturer whose products will be sold exclusively through Kittle’s.

Local food options have also expanded for the weekend. Campas Pizza of Arbuckle will be among the food vendors, while the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce will serve breakfast and Daily Habit will offer a lunch menu.

Live entertainment will be provided both days by Tyler Applegarth, who will perform as a one-man band during lunch and breaks between competitions. His sets will include original music, including songs inspired by duck calling.

The Fifthly Spoon podcast will also provide entertainment from the stage during the weekend.

Organizers are anticipating a large crowd as interest in competitive duck calling and the outdoor expo continues to expand beyond the region.
