SAN BERNARDINO, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak 10-12 softball team went 2-0 to open the Little League Softball West regionals as they won 2-1 over Honolulu LL on Sunday, July 19.

For the second game in a row, Live Oak pitcher Eveya Martinez scored the first run in the top of the first as she was brought in by a ground ball hit to tJusr he right side by infielder Charlotte Dudek.

Honolulu made Martinez work in the circle as she was at 53 pitches after three innings and Hawaii left five runners stranded on the basepaths through those frames.

On top of the resilience in the circle show by Martinez, the consistent and stellar-defensive by the Live Oak defense showed up again.

Live Oak catcher Hannah Lancieri threw out a base runner attempting to steal for the second-straight game.

Additional Live Oak defense plays included heads up plays from Martinez inside the circle, but infielders Riley Perigo and Juliana Robles along with Dudek made key plays throughout the game.

Lancieri led the fourth off with a single to right. Lancieri was relieved on the base paths by Robles at second after Robles struck out for the second out of the inning.

Live Oak outfielder Olivia Smith hit a run-batted-in single up the middle that scored Robles from second.

Honolulu’s first two hitters in the fourth reached base safely and Martinez was relieved by Dudek in the circle.

Martinez finished the game with three innings in the circle where she surrendered five hits, one run and two strikeouts.

Dudek came into the circle and dominated inside the circle as she retired the first seven hitters she faced.

Honolulu threatened in the sixth with two-straight hits with two outs.

Dudek had two strikes on Honolulu catcher Reona Takamori and she attempted a bunt with two strikes and it grazed her bat. Strike three was originally called and Hawaii challenged the rule.

It was deemed that play was unreviewable and Live Oak took the victory.

2025. Live Oak was two victories away from punching their ticket to the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.

Live Oak played Nevada on Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m.
