GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Museum marked the nation's 250th anniversary with a Fourth of July window display highlighting the major wars fought throughout U.S. history.
Beginning with the Revolutionary War, which lasted from April 19, 1775, to Sept. 3, 1783, the display features "10 Facts" about each conflict, including the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and the war in Afghanistan. The historical facts are displayed in the museum's windows, allowing passersby to learn more about the nation's military history.
In addition to the historical information, the museum has curated photos and biographies of local veterans who served in those conflicts, where applicable. Featured veterans include Henry C. Veatch, who fought in the Civil War and is the namesake of the building that houses the Gridley Museum; Shigeo J. Tanimoto, who served during World War II; and Maj. Cliff Wagner, who has received numerous military honors and awards for his service in the Middle East.
The museum is also encouraging veterans from throughout the region to share their stories of military service for future exhibits.
