Live Oak 10-12 Softball Secures Second-Straight CA District 2 Banner

LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak Little League 10-12 softball team clinched its second-straight California District 2 championship as they defeated Sutter Area 11-1 on Sunday, June 21.
Live Oak and Sutter Area both met in the opening game of the District 2 tournament on June 12 where SA prevailed with a 4-3 victory.
SA moved into the winners bracket and they won’t their next three games to clinch a spot in the D2 championship.
As the LO team was disappointed with the opening game result, they had a tougher road to get into the championship as they played six-consecutive elimination games to reach the championship.

During the six-game streak, they outscored their opponents 66-3 before they got to see SA on Saturday in the double-elimination final.
LO prevailed with a 1-0 nail-biting win on Saturday, June 20 where a heads up game on the base paths by LO’s Riley Perigo was the difference maker on her run attempt home on a passed ball was successful with two outs in the third
LO pitcher Eveya Martinez pitched lights out in the circle as she tossed a one hitter for the victory on Saturday that forced a winner-take-all game for the D2 championship on Sunday.
LO had the momentum and took the confidence of winning seven straight in the game on Sunday.

LO infielder/pitcher Charlotte Dudek sent a screamer of a blast over the fence in the first to give LO an early lead.
LO continuously chipped away at the plate as they scored in each of their four-innings towards the win on Sunday.
Perigo and infielder Brooke Duran each had two hits in the win.
LO opened up a favorable lead in the third as six runs crossed the plate after four hits in the inning.
Martinez was lights out in the circle again as she tossed a no-hitter in the win, which included pounding the strike zone for 38 strikes of her 54 pitches.

Martinez sent seven SA hitters back to the bench empty on strikes. Martinez tossed 32 of the 40 innings for LO in the tournament where she surrendered eight hits, five runs, nine walks and struck out 68 hitters.
75% of the LO hitters had a batting average over .300 in the tournament that included 76 total hits and 65 runs-batted-in.
LO moved onto the Shasta Section for their next stint in hopes of getting to North Carolina for the Little League Softball World Series.
The Shasta Section tournament will be played in Anderson and begins on Saturday, June 27.
