Sutter Area LL Tops Live Oak in CA D2 Softball Tournament

The Sutter Area 10-12 All-Stars defeated Live Oak LL 4-3 on June 12 in the California District 2 10-12 softball tournament.

 

SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Sutter Area Major girls defeated the Live Oak Little League 4-3 on June 12 in the opening round of the California District 2 Softball Tournament.

Sutter Area wasted no time to get on the scoreboard early as they pushed three runs across the plate in the first inning.

SA capitalized on a couple errors that led to the runs, but the key was SA put the ball in play.

It took Live Oak a couple of innings to get comfortable in the batter’s box as they cut the deficit 3-2.

Live Oak infielder Brooke Duran led the inning off with a double and the runs were scored off run-batted-in doubles that were back-to-back by infielder Evers Martinez and Hannah Lancieri.

Martinez pitched the first two innings in the circle for LO. LO pitcher Charlotte Dudek entered the circle in the third and tossed three innings as she gave up one run off one hit and struck out five in the three innings inside the circle.

SA catcher Whitney O’ Neal lined an RBI double in the bottom of the third and extended their lead 4-2.

SA pitcher Carley O’Neal pitched a complete game and struck out 11 LO hitters in the win.

LO threatened in the sixth as they cut the SA lead to one after Dudek brought in Martinez.

Carley recorded the final out with a comebacker to her and secured the win.

Sutter Area moved onto the winner’s bracket where they followed up with a 3-0 win over Middletown Cobb LL on Sunday.

Live Oak moved down to the loser’s bracket in the double-elimination tournament.
