LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak City Council on May 6 approved the submission of a Transportation Development Act claim for fiscal year 2021-22 funding to support local road improvement projects.
Transportation Development Act funding helps pay for local transportation infrastructure and street improvements. Funding is divided into two categories: State Transit Assistance funds, which the city uses in partnership with Yuba-Sutter Transit Authority, and Local Transportation Fund money, which can be used for capital improvements to city streets and roads.
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments administers the funding and releases money to the city after claims are submitted for eligible projects.
Finance Director Ethan Gutierrez said the city’s most recent claim covered the 2019-20 allocation, which funded the Highway 99 and Pennington Road West project.
According to city staff, Live Oak currently has approximately $2.87 million in unclaimed Transportation Development Act funds from fiscal years 2021-22 through 2025-26. The latest claim requests the 2021-22 allocation for a net amount of about $444,000.
Gutierrez said the funding will reimburse eligible transportation projects, including improvements on Nevada Street and N Street. The work is currently under contract with All American Construction. The funds may also support roadway improvements and potential grant matching for the Larkin Road and Broadway Preservation Project.
“We can get these funds to help reimburse these eligible projects,” Gutierrez said.
Councilmember Ashley Hernandez asked whether there were plans for the remaining unclaimed funds.
City Manager Ben Moody said the city intends to strategically use part of the balance as matching funds to help secure larger grant opportunities. As staff prepares the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, Moody said officials will review options for reducing the balance while maximizing available funding opportunities.
Mayor Jeramy Chapdelaine thanked city staff for identifying funding that had not previously been utilized.
The council voted unanimously to approve the claim submission.
The next Live Oak City Council meeting is scheduled for May 20.
