GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 210 South Butte is inviting student artists from Biggs, Gridley and Live Oak to help celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday through a community poster contest.

The contest is open to elementary, middle school and high school students. Organizers are asking participants to create original, hand-made posters featuring patriotic themes tied to the birth of the United States.

Posters must measure either 18-by-24 inches or 24-by-36 inches. Accepted materials include watercolor, acrylic or oil paints, chalk or oil pastels, colored pencils, charcoal, ink and mixed media. Organizers said AI-generated artwork will not be accepted.

Students may submit entries at the Veterans Memorial Building, 249 Sycamore St. in Gridley, from 4 to 6 p.m. each Thursday beginning May 14 through June 11.

Contest winners will be announced during a public cake and ice cream social scheduled for July 3. Organizers said all submitted artwork will become property of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 210 and will be displayed at the Veterans Memorial Building and throughout surrounding communities.
