BIGGS, CA (YSBC) - The Biggs Wolverines baseball team were swept in their series against the Hamilton Braves and lost their opportunity at a Mid-Valley League championship.
Biggs lost on April 28 9-5 and 2-1 on May 1.
Hamilton got ahead with an early 3-0 lead in the first matchup of the series after Wolverines’ ace Dennis Dewhurst allowed the first three runners on base and trailed by two before Biggs got their first out of the game.
Dewhurst shut down the Braves from the second through the fourth innings before Hamilton was able to double their lead to six in the fifth.
Dewhurst pitched six innings in the loss as he allowed seven runs off 12 hits and struck out five.

The Wolverines had opportunities to score in the first, third and fourth innings with runners in scoring position, but were unable to push a run across the plate.
Biggs had a big inning in the bottom of the sixth where they closed the deficit 7-5. The Wolverines had five consecutive hits in the inning.
The Braves pushed two more across in the seventh to build a small cushion and took the first game of the series.
In the second game on May 1, it was a pitcher’s duel between young arms as Biggs freshman Jaiden Bandy and Hamilton sophomore Daniel Leal dealt impressive outings on the mound.

Bandy helped his cause at the plate as he drove the lone Wolverines’ run in the top of the third.
The Braves answered back quickly as junior infielder Patrick Matthews grounded out to Bandy to tie the game in the bottom of the third.
Bandy tossed five innings in the loss where he struck out six and allowed six hits.
Leal showed dominant control of the strike zone as he tossed a complete game where he gave up four hits and sent seven Biggs hitters back to the bench empty on strikes.
Leal tossed 79 pitches throughout the game and tossed 72% of them for strikes.
The Wolverines finish the regular season off with a series a doubleheader against Portola on Tuesday and host Willows on Friday, May 8.
