GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley City Council members finalized committee assignments earlier this month, making only slight changes to representation on regional boards while leaving most appointments unchanged.
The review is part of the council’s regular process to confirm or adjust committee roles for the calendar year, ensuring representation across agencies handling issues such as air quality, flood control and regional planning, officials said.
During discussion, council members identified only a few changes to the existing lineup. The most notable shift involved the Butte County Association of Governments, commonly referred to as BCAG. Originally formed in 1969, the agency is a Joint Powers Authority between the County of Butte and the cities of Biggs, Gridley, Oroville and Chico, along with the Town of Paradise. BCAG coordinates regional transportation planning, administers state and federal transportation funding, and works on long-range growth and infrastructure planning across the county.
Vice Mayor Bruce Johnson was designated as the primary representative on the 10-member BCAG board, with Councilmember Catalina Sanchez serving as alternate, replacing Councilmember Angel Calderon in the lead role.
Johnson was also confirmed as the primary representative for Butte County Air Quality, with Sanchez continuing as alternate.
Other assignments the council confirmed, including the Butte County Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority and Local Agency Task Force 20, remained unchanged, with Calderon continuing as primary and Johnson as alternate.
Beyond those updates, most committee appointments stayed consistent with prior assignments approved in December 2024.
Mayor Mike Farr and Johnson continue representing the city on the Butte Subbasin Advisory Board. Johnson also serves on the Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency and the Local Agency Formation Commission.
Farr and Sanchez remain the city’s representatives to the Northern California Power Association.
Johnson continues on the Mosquito Abatement District, while Sanchez serves on the loan committee.
Councilmember James Roberts maintains assignments to the Gridley Chamber of Commerce, Red Suspenders Committee and Winter Festival Committee.
Johnson and Farr serve on the Gridley human resources committee, while Calderon and Johnson continue on the disaster council.
Calderon also represents the city on the Behavioral Health Advisory Board and, along with Johnson, serves on the Butte County Emergency Medical Advisory Group.
Locally, Johnson and Roberts continue on the utility and public works committee, while Farr and Johnson serve on the development collaboration committee.
The assignments are reviewed periodically to balance workloads and maintain representation, officials said.
The next full review is expected after the November 2026 general election.
