Biggs and Gridley Baseball Light Up the Scoreboard in Wins

BUTTE COUNTY, CA (YSBC) - The Biggs and Gridley baseball teams ended the weekend with high-hitting performances that resulted in wins for both clubs.
Gridley defeated the Central Valley Falcons 13-8 on Friday, March 20 in a non-league matchup.
Bulldogs senior pitcher Eli Punzo pitched the first 3 ⅓ innings where he gave up four runs off two hits, but sent nine Falcons’ back to the bench empty on strikes.
Gridley sophomore Trey Rosser relieved Punzo in the fourth and shut down the Central Valley lineup over the next 2 ⅔ innings on the mound.
Bulldogs junior Marcus Duncan went five-for-five at the plate against the Falcons, including a double and touched home three times for Gridley.

Bulldogs senior Tanner Abbott gave Gridley the lead back in the bottom of the fourth as he hit a run-batted-in (RBI) single up the middle that put the Bulldogs up 6-5.
Abbott extended the Gridley lead to a cushion in the fifth as he smacked a two-RBI triple to right field and scored on a throw that got by the Central Valley third baseman.
The Bulldogs hosted Redding Christian on Tuesday and the game results were not complete before press time.
The Biggs Wolverines ended the weekend with a sweep of the Bobby Hill Tournament they hosted as they defeated Mid-Valley League foe Hamilton with a 16-2 win on Saturday, March 21.
Biggs easily took care of Plumas Charter and Fall River on Saturday, March 20, which set them up for the championship game against the Braves.

Hamilton was light on reserves as they were missing some players in the dugout, but the Wolverines kept their foot on the gas pedal and didn’t take the game lightly.
Biggs junior pitcher Dennis Dewhurst was locked in and dialed on the mound as he picked up his second win of the season.
Dewhurst pitched all five innings where he allowed two runs off of four hits and punched out 11 strikeouts in the win.
The Wolverines opened the floodgates in the first inning as they put up eight runs and displayed patience along with power at the plate.
Biggs freshman infielder Jaiden Bandy started the slugfest with a two-RBI double. Bandy led the Wolverines with three hits and five RBIs in the win over the Braves.

Bandy and Dewhurst put on a hitting clinic at the Bobby Hill tournament as they combined for 15 hits and 13 RBIs throughout the tournament.
The shortened Hamilton squad had no answer for Biggs on Saturday.
Wolverines head and first-year coach Kameron Smith expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that he is happy with how his team has started off this season.
Smith said that he’s excited about the opportunity to see what his team can accomplish this season as they are considered young, but they have the ability to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Biggs hosted Fortuna on Tuesday with a double header and is scheduled to play a double header at Weed today, with first pitch being scheduled for 2 p.m.
