Biggs Dominates Maxwell Softball Tournament

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – Biggs’ softball team ran the table last weekend outscoring its opponents 23-1 over the three games to lay claim to the tournament championship in Maxwell last weekend.
Beginning play on March 13, the Wolverines torched CORE Butte 16-0 as they banged out 12 hits.
Emmy Ibarra collected two hits and knocked in three runs, while Lyllian Baxter also finished with a pair of hits.
In the circle, Riley Harrison recorded the no-no, striking out five in the process.

Following up later that same afternoon, Biggs shutout South Fork, a team from Humboldt County, by a score of 5-0.
Daisy Seipert went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Gracie Sheppard and Emma Bermudez had two hits apiece.
Sheppard handled the pitching duties, fanning 14 and scattering five hits.
However, the best game of the entire tournament by far was the finale against Los Molinos, as the Wolverines walked it off in the sixth to prevail 2-1.
Sheppard did her part in the circle, limiting the Bulldogs two just three hits while striking out eight.
Baxter and Arden Vines accounted for Biggs’ only two hits with each driving in a run.
Live Oak pitcher Melina Jurado was solid in the circle for the Lions, who finished in third place at the Maxwell Tournament.
Meanwhile, the Live Oak squad also made a strong showing in Maxwell, finishing third after downing the host Panthers 16-4, falling 3-4 to Los Molinos and then bouncing back to defeat South Fork 7-6.
Although statistics from the win over Maxwell were unavailable, against the Bulldogs Oliviah Duran and Farrah Gomez both recorded hits.
Sophomore pitcher Melina Juardo turned in a solid performance striking out five, scattering four hits and surrendering just one earned run.
Finishing up with a victory over South Fork, Merrideth Bole went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI, while Duran ended the day 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Jurado and Sarah Jupina combined for the win in the circle.
This week, Biggs (7-1) hit the road to play a doubleheader against Mt. Shasta on St. Patrick’s Day, while Live Oak (4-5) hosted Pierce on Tuesday and heads to Los Molinos on Friday for a twin bill.
