GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Months of rehearsal paid off as a sold-out crowd enjoyed the GHS Drama Club’s presentation of “Guys and Dolls” on Thursday, March 12. For Friday’s performance, the cast performed with energy and expression despite a long day of band competition at Butte College.
Directors Connie Quist and Ethan Jacobsen recruited GHS art classes to paint the sets and backdrops, which depicted downtown New York and Havana, Cuba. Students directed lighting and sound and managed props and sets backstage. The production emphasized student engagement, with participants gaining valuable experience.
William Bevan, who played Nathan Detroit, said he enjoyed the experience.
“It’s fun to get out there on stage, especially if it’s with people you enjoy being with,” he said, adding that the rehearsal process helped prepare him to perform without getting nervous.
Asia Clark played Sarah Brown, a leader in the local Save A Soul Mission. Clark said she appreciated learning to work with others and getting to know them.
“It will make it easier to do that going forward. I find it really helpful,” she said.
Clark added that she especially enjoyed closing night and sharing the experience with the cast.
The GHS musical theater tradition continues to benefit students and entertain audiences, with crowds of supportive families, friends and community members.
