BUTTE COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Butte County is encouraging the public to explore local history and culture during its annual Museum Weekend, set for Feb. 28 and March 1.

Participating museums across the county will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, including the Gridley Museum. Each location will offer a special program aimed at attracting visitors.

The Gridley Museum, which focuses on local history from the 1800s and 1900s, will feature programming tied to the community’s past during the 2026 Museum Weekend, according to museum volunteer RuthAnn King.

“We are planning on showing Ken Burns documentaries on the Revolutionary War, as this will be the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4,” King said, adding that details are still being finalized.

Other participating museums include the Gateway Science Museum, which offers a child-oriented STEM experience, the Janet Turner Art Museum, home to about 4,000 art prints, and the Oroville Chinese Temple and Museum.
