LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak City Council issued a proclamation honoring the Live Oak High School cross country team at the Dec. 3 meeting.
Mayor Jeramy Chapdelaine said this was the first year the team made it to the state championship, which was a “huge accomplishment for a young program” only in its fifth year.
Chapdelaine read the proclamation honoring the achievements of these student athletes, “who exemplify dedication, discipline, and excellence,” and their outstanding commitment to “representing their school and community with pride, sportsmanship, and resilience.”
The varsity boys finished the season as Westside League Champions and then finished ninth at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state northern section finals, and second in Division 4. Chapdelaine said the girls’ varsity team consisted of one girl, who was nearly undefeated in league meets and also competed at the state level.
All the council members congratulated the students on an impressive season.
The council then considered adopting updates the Live Oak Municipal Code to align with the 2025 California Building Standards Code. City Manager Ben Moody said it will be two-part process to amend the ordinance, with the updates introduced in a first reading at this meeting and official adoption after a second reading at a future meeting.
The state requires updates to the building code every three years, and the city must make updates to ensure alignment with state standards. Moody said staff is not recommending any specific local amendments at this time.
Moody said there could be new costs for contractors and developers as a result of these building code updates, as building codes are shifting away from gas and toward more electrification requirements.
The council voted unanimously to approve the first reading of the code updates.
During city manager items, Moody updated council on the recent public workshop by the Sutter County sheriff and fire departments: “Really the takeaway is that over the next year we’re going to busy working to resolve the contract and budget issues, to keep providing public safety for the City of Live Oak.
The council closed the meeting with a moment of silence for the children who were recently killed in a shooting in Stockton.
The next meeting of the Live Oak City Council is scheduled for Dec. 17.
