Ready For a Classic Win

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Lady Bulldogs Holiday Classic hits the court Dec. 4, ushering in a season of high-paced girls’ basketball for Gridley High School.
The annual varsity girls’ basketball tournament pits the Oroville Tigers, Wheatland Pirates, Las Plumas Thunderbirds, Alhambra Bulldogs, Corning Cardinals, Eureka Loggers and East Nicolaus Spartans against the Gridley Bulldogs in a three-day contest, wrapping with a consolation round at 1 p.m. and championship game at 2:30 p.m. Sat. Dec. 6.
The varsity girls are led by head Coach Becca McCray, who tells the Herald that she is excited about the upcoming season.
“We have a lot of quick, talented girls on our team,” McCray said.
Coach McCray singles out senior Aubree Weber and junior Andrea Guillen as leaders and major assets on the court.
Two sophomores Madi Cari and Iris Counihan will be starters during the holiday classic.
“They are both quick, feisty on defense and play makers,” McCray said.
Overall, McCray is confident in the skill set of her team saying, “I have a bench with just as much talent. I feel this year will be a great year!”
