OROVILLE, CA (MPG) - The City of Oroville is inviting local artists to help shape the city’s visual landscape through new funding available for public art projects. The Oroville Arts Commission has released a Notice of Funds Available (NOFA) through the Arts in Public Places Oroville Beautification Program, providing up to $40,000 per project for the creation, installation and restoration of murals within city limits.
As part of this initiative, the city is seeking proposals for a new public mural at Hewitt Park, designed to celebrate Oroville’s natural environment and rich history. The goal is that the new three-panel mural will highlight themes of trains and mining, recognizing the industries that helped shape the community. Artists are invited to apply for this mural opportunity, designed to offer residents and visitors an engaging public art experience and a new destination for photo opportunities.
In addition to the new installation at Hewitt Park, the program also supports mural restoration projects for already-existing works around the city. This may include plaster repair, as well as hiring a contracted mural restoration specialist.
The Arts in Public Places Oroville Beautification Program was established in 2013 to support public art projects that enhance Oroville’s cultural identity and community spaces.
“The Arts Commission’s beautification program is about more than art — it’s about community pride,” said Patrick Piatt, community development director. “Public art connects people to place, celebrates our shared history, and helps ensure Oroville’s story continues to be told in vibrant color.”
Applications for funding are open through 12 p.m. on Nov. 28 and are available on the city’s website at orovilleca.gov. Artists and restoration professionals with a passion for storytelling through art are encouraged to apply.
