GRIDLEY, CA (YSBC) - The Gridley Bulldogs girls flag football team conquered their second victory of the season as they won a defensive battle against the Oakmont Vikings 12-6 on Monday, Sept. 29.
Gridley lit up the scoreboard in the final minute of the second quarter as sophomore quarterback Delanie Cloyd rushed the ball in from 21-yards out for the score.
Cloyd evaded multiple Oakmont defenders on the scramble for the touchdown and took the Bulldogs into the half with the six-point lead.
Gridley head coach John Cooprider expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the Bulldogs are having fun and enjoying their first year as a program.

He added that he is happy with how the positive vibes and the support the girls have gotten from everyone in the community,
Some of the loudest support came from the Bulldogs football team as they led the crowd with chants and cheers from the stands throughout most of the first half before returning to practice.
Gridley’s Natalie Mariscal snagged the first of the Bulldogs two interceptions in the first play of the second quarter and Cloyd followed the next defensive possession with the first of her three picks of the night.
Offensively, Cloyd found Ava Campos, Mariscal and Kaydenze Pruitt for receptions down field when she wasn’t making defenders miss on rushing the ball.

Campos had an interception in the third quarter and Cloyd made a miraculous snag in the end zone for an interception that prevented Oakmont from tying the game early in the fourth.
Cooprider added that the Bulldogs have been in some close games and took on the challenge and handled the adversity well.
Gridley got the ball with a minute left in regulation and Cloyd found Mariscal down the right sideline for a big pass play that put them in a great scoring situation.
On the following play, Cloyd scrambled and dazzled her way into the end zone from the 25 as regulation expired, but the Bulldogs committed a penalty and had one untimed down to score.
Oakmont swallowed Cloyd instantly on the final play of regulation that forced overtime.

The Vikings tied the game with two minutes to go in the game as senior quarterback Lily Nelson ran the ball up the middle for a five-yard rushing touchdown and after a failed extra point, the game was tied at six.
Nelson and Cloyd each intercepted a pass from one another on the opening possessions of overtime.
Pruitt made a leaping catch on a 25-yard pass from Cloyd for the lead in the second overtime.
The Bulldogs defense held their own and stalemated the Vikings final push on fourth and goal from the two-yard line, which secured the win.
Cooprider told YSBC that the girls earned a big win and wants to see the momentum continue as they get ready to play the second half of their schedule.
Gridley is scheduled to host Mira Loma next on Monday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m.
