Well, come on in! Dr. Joel Berman holds the door open for you at his new office, located at 947 Magnolia St., Gridley.
GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Recently, Dr. Joel Berman DPM moved his podiatry practice from the Medical Specialty Center to a new office located at 947 Magnolia Street Gridley.
The podiatrist has worked in the greater Butte/Yuba-Sutter area for 35 years, getting his start in Colusa Hospital.
Berman shared with the Gridley Herald a bit about how he came to practice podiatry and how he was inspired to help people by his father.
“I grew up in my dad’s drugstore, and he was in a rural part of town, back in New Jersey. Everybody knew him. “They’d come in, they’d bring their kids, and say, ‘Hey ‘Mo’, his nickname was ‘Mo’. What should we do with this?” said Berman with his Jersey accent reminiscing about how people trusted his father to guide them to solutions while truly caring for them. “He was part of the community.”
Berman would initially follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a pharmaceutical degree. He graduated and worked as a pharmacist, but it kept him mostly in chain stores where he said the pace was too busy. He had no time to talk with his patients and felt unable to develop the relationship with his patients that he desired.

This chair is for you! Go ahead and put your feet up, Dr. Berman will take a look.
“I wanted to be on the other side of the prescription,” said Berman.
He eventually transitioned into podiatry, where he was able to develop connections with his patients while treating them. Dr. Berman started his podiatry practice in Colusa in 1988 at the Colusa Hospital, expanding to locations in Lincoln and Marysville.
Dr. Berman got his foot in the door at Gridley Hospital back in the early 1990’s after he moved to Biggs. Since then, he has been treating a host of foot and ankle issues, from hammer toes to neuromas in Gridley.
As a podiatrist, Dr. Berman offers clients custom orthotics, nail and ingrown toenail care, and treats more acute conditions like painful plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon and more. He shares that he performs some minor surgical procedures in office, while others are done at the hospital.
One thing is certain, this foot-doctor will give you a kick with his friendly bedside manner.
When asked about a memorable moment, Berman shares that he once had a client hold a video camera and record a procedure he was performing, draining a large cyst on the client’s foot. The resulting footage of the cyst ejecting material would end up getting a lot of likes on YouTube.
“6.2 million views!” said Berman, “Is that viral?” he asks chuckling.
Bermans new office is comfortable and open for business, Fridays in Gridley. For a good time putting your best foot forward at any of his offices, call Berman at 530-382-8624.
