GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – As the whistles blew and games started this last weekend, Gridley Parks & Recreations Soccer League took a step forward in the right direction after a rough start to the season.
Community feedback regarding the season’s uniforms and dissatisfaction with department management, especially communication, made its way to the City of Gridley superiors, which were quick to respond.
On behalf of the City of Gridley, a public announcement was made by Martin Pineda, Finance Director, on social media Sept. 23.
“I want to sincerely apologize for the lack of communication and how this year’s soccer league has started. We recognize the frustration this has caused and are committed to making things right,” said Pineda.
Pineda further outlines the city’s response to the circumstances, offering full refunds to all participants.
“Our Finance Department is currently determining the most efficient and convenient way to process these refunds,” said Pineda.
In addition, the city ordered new jerseys the same day as the announcement and anticipates receiving them sometime during the week of Oct. 6. These uniforms are expected to be the same style and material as past seasons jersey and be complete with Gridley logo, team names and numbers.
As an added bonus, the city is also working with photographer Mark Thau in attempts to book a second photo “re-take” day. Many parents and players opted out of individual and team photos due to the issues with the first uniforms provided by the recreation department.
“While we understand these steps don’t undo the issues that have occurred, please know we are doing everything we can to make it right,” said Pineda.
