OROVILLE, CA (MPG) – The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Golden Bear Division proudly announces that Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) Jason Storey of Oroville has been named Region 12-8 Cadet of the Year. Storey, a junior at Durham High School, will represent Northern California this October in Philadelphia as part of the Homecoming 250th Anniversary Parade honoring the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
As part of this historic, nationally televised event, Storey and fellow Sea Cadets from across the country will serve as official flag bearers, marching in the parade to honor the proud traditions of America’s sea services.
“This is more than a parade,” said INST Cameron Sweeney, Commanding Officer of the Golden Bear Division. “When we support our cadets, we are investing in the leadership, character and future of our young people. These experiences shape them into citizens who serve their communities and their country.”
To make this opportunity possible and to ensure continued programming for all cadets the Golden Bear Division is seeking community support in the amount of $10,000. Contributions will help cover travel expenses for the Philadelphia trip as well as ongoing costs for uniforms, training and activities that prepare cadets to become disciplined leaders.
Donations can be made by check, payable to Naval Sea Cadet Corps and mailed to P.O. Box 846, Oroville, CA 95965, or Zelle, send directly to [email protected].
All contributions are tax-deductible.
The Golden Bear Division is also actively recruiting new members. The program is open to youth ages 10–17 who are interested in military service, maritime careers, or simply building discipline, leadership and teamwork. The unit meets on the second Saturday of each month at VFW Post 1555 in Chico. There is no selection process; interested families may complete an online form at www.chicoseacadets.org to be contacted by unit staff. Financial aid through community support offsets rising fees for cadets.
