GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 15 to adopt a resolution honoring the retirement of Mark Orme, longtime general manager of Butte Water District.
Orme, whose career in the water industry spans four decades, was recognized for his enduring leadership, public service, and deep commitment to the Gridley community.
Under the scope of his watch, the Butte Water District served more than 12,000 acres of surface water, with 6,000 acres dedicated to rice production.
“During his tenure as general manager, Mark has led Butte Water District with integrity, innovation, and a deep commitment to meeting the community’s water needs, ensuring the long-term viability and success of the district,” said Gridley Mayor Michael Farr, in reading a resolution commending Orme for his stewardship of the region’s water resources and his dedication to public service.
Orme began his tenure at Butte Water District on June 9, 1986, as a general laborer. He later advanced to foreman and was appointed general manager in April 1995. Prior to joining the district, Orme worked for the Biggs-West Gridley Water District, gaining experience that helped shape his leadership style, according to the resolution.
Farr also emphasized Orme’s lifelong ties to the area.
“Mark has been a lifelong resident of the Gridley area, and his leadership and contributions have left a lasting impact. He is a valued member of both the Butte Water District and the Gridley community,” Farr said.
Farr read the resolution aloud before presenting it to Orme’s son, Drew Orme, who accepted the honor on behalf of his father, who was unable to attend due to health reasons.
The council’s action served as formal recognition of Orme’s career and a public thank-you for his decades of service.
Farr concluded by extending the city’s congratulations and appreciation, wishing Orme a well-deserved, happy, and fulfilling retirement.
Orme’s official retirement date is Sept. 30. Donnie Stinnett was appointed general manager in April to succeed him.
