GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - After nearly a century of operations at its original location on Cedar Street, Butte County Public Works yard will move to newly acquired property at 82 West Liberty Road in Gridley, the longtime home of Shadd Trucking.

The Department of Public Works has maintained and operated its road maintenance, staging, and storage area at the county-owned Gridley Yard located at 860 Cedar Street since its construction in approximately 1927. County officials said the department has now outgrown the available space and improvements at the existing site and identified the Liberty Road property as a suitable replacement that will enhance service capacity in the Gridley area and provide a more functional base for road operations moving forward.

The Butte County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 approved the acquisition of the 1.09-acre site from Michael A. Shadd for a purchase price of $799,999 plus title and escrow fees. The property includes a 4,000-square-foot metal shop, two office spaces, two restrooms and a flexible break room or parts room.

The board resolution, on the consent agenda, also authorized Director of General Services Michael Hodson to execute the documents necessary to complete the acquisition and close escrow, including executing the Certificate of Acceptance.
