GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – The Schohr name is synonymous with Hereford cattle in this area.
The younger generations in the family are continuing that legacy as they work, breed and show the Hereford breed of cattle easily identified with a reddish-brown body and white face.
Local senior at Gridley High School Joe Schohr is a 7th generation California Cattleman and 4th generation member of the American Hereford Association (AHA).
Amanda Schohr shared that a subdivision of the American Hereford Association program is the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) and California-Nevada Junior Hereford Association. According to her, youth as young as 7-years-old can become members, capping at the age of 21.
Both Joe and his sister Madeline Schohr have been members of the American Hereford Association since the age of 7 and have competed in both the showmanship and leadership categories.
Joe Schohr is currently serving as 2025 CNJHA President and Madeline Schohr is in her second term as American Hereford Association Princess.

The Schohr family traveled 4, 833 miles and across 12-states in a 19-day expedition to attend the 2025 Junior National Hereford Expo where both Joe and Madeline American Hereford Association competed.
Out of 2,182 cattle entries and 705 National Junior Hereford Association exhibitors, the siblings would both do well.
Joe placed first in the Future Professionals Contest, in the Top 25 Intermediate Showman, third in class Owned Show and fourth in Bred and Owned Show with SS Claudett and fourth in class Owned Show with SS JS Gnarly.
Madeline would place as a Class Winner with Werk Rachael 430 ET, make the Semi-Finals for Showmanship and represented the JNHE the CA-NV Hereford Princess.
The family continues the legacy of proud Hereford breeders and California cattlemen and women.
