LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) – A solid group of sailors turned out at the Live Oak City Pool, Friday July 18, to test their engineering and water-faring capabilities.

Live Oak Parks and Recreation Department hosted the 2025 Cardboard Boat Races, inviting locals to come out to the community park to enjoy this yearly activity.

Participants used cardboard, tape and more to create water-tight, or not, boats, launching them across the city pool in fun-filled races.

Multiple children turned out to participate in the pre-race build scheduled at 5:30 p.m. taking advantage of the materials on hand. Others would bring their own materials or pre-made craft, adhering to the rules of “no wood, metal, nails or staples.”

Races began at 7 p.m., with multiple winners awarded.
