GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Gridley residents have most likely noticed the placement of the 10-foot-tall Rotary clock on the corner of Hazel and Kentucky streets.
Public Works employees made the installation at no expense to the Rotary Club. The clock has remained covered in preparation for the unveiling and dedication at 11:30 a.m. June 30.
All Gridley residents are invited to attend the unveiling.
This milestone is a culmination of months of work to gather $20,000 in donations for the clock’s cost. Those who donated funds include the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the City of Gridley.
Placement of the clock is in celebration of Gridley Rotary Club’s Centennial, as well as honoring 50-year Rotarian Dick Jones with a commemorative bronze plaque. Jones passed away last year at age 90 and had lived in Gridley all his life. Jones donated countless hours of service and money to Rotary, was named a Paul Harris Fellow and designated as a “Rotary Major Donor” in 2022.
For decades, Jones was involved with the Gridley Little League, and the baseball field at Vierra Park is named after him.
Gridley Chamber of Commerce and Rotary President Lynne Spencer will conduct the dedication. Rotary members and city officials will be on hand for the festivities and refreshments will be served at the Chamber of Commerce office directly across the street.
