Bulldogs Baseball Roll Past the Cardinals

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Bulldogs baseball team kept their undefeated league record alive this past week against the Corning Cardinals.

On Tuesday, April 22, the Bulldogs traveled to Corning and put on a hitting clinic against the Cardinals. The bats got going early as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning to the Cardinals one run.

In the second inning, the Bulldogs continued with two runs to the Cardinals one run and after that, the Bulldogs exploded on offense and defense adding in 10 more combined runs to the Cardinals 0 runs.

The game ended up being called after the bottom of the fifth and the Bulldogs left Corning with a 15-2 victory. All but one player on the Bulldogs scored at least one run, with senior Luis Murillo leading the way with three runs.

On Friday, April 25 the Bulldogs hosted the Cardinals in a game that was closer in score but still was a dominating effort by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs once again started the game off hot, scoring five combined runs in the first and second innings. The Bulldogs wouldn’t score again until the bottom of the fifth but scoring wasn’t necessary as the Bulldogs defense and pitching played a very strong game and held the Cardinals to nothing until the top of the seventh when the Cardinals scored their lone two runs.

The Bulldogs again ended the game early with a final score of 6-2. Junior Aceson Gomez led the Bulldogs with two runs while multiple players followed behind with one run.

The Bulldogs improved to 15-8 overall and 6-0 in league. The Bulldogs will face the Orland Trojans in back-to-back games. On April 29, the Bulldogs hosted the Trojans, after press time. On May 2, the Bulldogs will travel to Orland. Both games start at 4 p.m.
