GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - In honor of its centennial, Gridley Rotary Club has ordered a commemorative clock to be placed on the Hazel Street side of the Gridley Museum.

The clock is nearing completion and installation is scheduled for May 9.

The 10-foot-tall clock will have a plaque in memory of long-time Rotarian Dick Jones, who died last year at age 90.

Jones was raised in Gridley, attended local schools and graduated from Gridley High School in 1951.

A Gridley Rotary International Club member for 48 years and a past president, Jones was also a Paul Harris Fellow, recognized as a Rotary Major Donor and constantly supported Rotary through volunteering his time and serving on multiple subcommittees.

Jones was also known for his decades of involvement in the Gridley Little League, which resulted in one of the baseball fields at Manuel Vierra Park being named after him.

The total cost for the clock is $17,000. About $3,000 remains to be gathered.

Many thanks are due to those who have already donated funds, said Gridley Rotary Club members.

All who wish to remember Jones can make a tax-deductible donation by contacting Gridley Rotary President Lynne Spencer at 530-870-0563 or Margaret Hughes at 530-693-2528, by mail at Gridley Rotary Club, P.O. Box 454, Gridley, CA 95984 or by Venmo at @RotaryClub-Gridley.
