Bulldog Boys End the Preseason Strong

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Bulldogs boys basketball team closed out the preseason with two home victories and extended their winning streak to seven in early January play.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Bulldogs faced the Wheatland Pirates and cruised to a win. The Bulldogs scored more points in the first quarter (25) than the Pirates scored all game (24) and dominated in all aspects of the game. Everyone on the roster scored as the Bulldogs won 64-24. Senior Luis Murillo led all scorers with 15 while also pitching in two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. Junior Jacob Boyan also had 13 points.  

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Bulldogs faced the Sutter Huskies in a much more tightly contested game. The teams battled back and forth but the Bulldogs were eventually able to take a solid lead and not look back. The Bulldogs won 64-54 as junior Jacob Boyan led Gridley in scoring with 17 points while adding seven rebounds, and one block. Senior Max Tolman added 15 points, and six rebounds and senior Luis Murillo chipped in with 11 points, five assists, and four steals. 

The Bulldogs are scheduled to begin league play against the 13-5 Las Plumas Thunderbirds at home on Tuesday, Jan. 14, after press time. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
