OROVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Butte College Roadrunners took on the Cuyamaca College Coyotes in the 3C2A Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday, Dec. 8 at American River College in Sacramento. The Coyotes ultimately prevailed over the Roadrunners with a final score of 2-0.

The Roadrunners versus the Coyotes may seem like a common Saturday morning cartoon show brought to you by the sponsor ACME, but in this case the Roadrunners were making their first ever Men's Soccer Final's appearance and Cuyamaca was looking for their first championship. Butte came into the game as the 3C2A leader in goals and was hoping to score multiple goals in the championship game. Cuyamaca was on a 14-game win streak but needed two overtime periods to defeat Cañada 2-1, where they fell behind in the second minute of the game, to advance to the championship game. Butte on the other hand needed a last-minute mistake by Long Beach which they capitalized on to get their only goal, which allowed the Roadrunners to defeat the Vikings and move on to Championship Sunday.

Butte College was unfortunately unable to finish off their season with a win in the 3C2A championship game after the program’s most successful year in its short history. In the championship game on Dec. 8, Butte fell behind early to the Coyotes and was forced to change their style of play into a more aggressive style of play. The Coyotes scored their second goal in the 59th minute which sealed the victory for the Coyotes. This was Butte's first trip to the 3C2A Finals but hopefully it will not be their last trip. More information to come on where the Roadrunner's sophomores will play next year.
