CHICO, CA (MPG) - The local community is invited to a unique and inclusive event, the Show [Your] Love Mural Fundraiser, on Friday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Winchester Goose, 824 Oroville Ave., Chico.

This fundraiser is an opportunity to support Valerie Rose, a talented deaf artist and activist, in creating a vibrant new mural paired with AR (augmented reality) on the Show Love thrift store. The event will be deaf-friendly and aims to raise awareness about American Sign Language (ASL) and deaf culture while bringing a new public art installation to life.

Valerie Rose is the founder and coordinator of the Sign Sign Mural Project, an initiative that aims to create accessible and inclusive art for all while promoting ASL and Deaf culture. Born with single-sided deafness (SSD), Valerie’s first language is ASL, and she is passionate about using her art to inspire social change. Her work as an ASL teacher and her commitment to the Deaf community make her a strong advocate for accessibility and inclusion.

Attendees of the Show [Your] Love Mural Fundraiser will enjoy a raffle featuring incredible prizes donated by over 30 local artists, businesses, and organizations. Raffle items include gift cards, unique artwork, jewelry, and exclusive offerings from names like Cafe Coda, Equilateral Coffee, Momona and many more. Each raffle ticket can be placed toward a specific prize, allowing attendees to choose what they hope to win.

Event Highlights

The Winchester Goose will offer a special cocktail, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Sign Sign Mural Project.

Over 30 donations from local businesses and artists will be raffled off in curated baskets.

Learn about ASL and Deaf culture in an inclusive setting. Valerie Rose’s pre-recorded ASL presentation will include closed captions for hearing attendees.

Show your support by purchasing themed merchandise, including stickers, hats and bags.

The goal is to raise at least $3,000 for this mural project. Any additional funds will support future projects by Valerie Rose and the Sign Sign Project, further promoting accessibility and the rich visual culture of the Deaf community.
