BIGGS, CA (MPG) – On Oct. 30, Wheeler Ranch & Feed celebrated 25 years in business by giving a 25% discount off all merchandise.

More than 100 customers turned out for the event, including the first customer from 1999.  They loaded up on hay, feed, clothing and shavings. Many were long-time patrons, while others have been coming for just a few months.  All have contributed to the growth and success of the store.

“It’s just been a fun day because they’re happy and we’re happy to see them. It’s been a wonderful day to celebrate customers and our relationships,” said Kayla Wheeler-Dunlap. She and her husband, Jacob, took over the store on the 20th anniversary in 2019.

Doug and Kari Wheeler, Wheeler-Dunlap’s parents, envisioned an agricultural business in Biggs.

“Many had doubts of a small family-owned business becoming successful in a remote location in a very small town but that didn’t stop them. For that, as the second-generation owner, I am beyond grateful,” Wheeler-Dunlap said.

In 1999, Wheeler Ranch and Feed opened and sold for Nutrena, one of the largest feed companies in the nation. Next came a horse arena for special events, horse boarding, a ranch-style petting zoo for families, clothing name brands such as Wrangler and Cinch, tack, vaccines and a women’s boutique added later.

The Wheelers have built a reputation for excellent customer service, which is being carried on today. Shipping is available for some items.

The convenience of having a feed and tack store next to a horse boarding cannot be overstated, according to one of the boarders.

Wheeler-Dunlap grew up spending time at the ranch after school. Her son, Davis, is now following in that tradition, plus a new addition to the family coming in February.

“We’re ready for another 25 years. We’re curious what it’s going to look like but we’ll still keep doing what we’re doing today to get that right,” Wheeler-Dunlap said.

The ranch is located at 3247 Smith Ave. in Biggs. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
