MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - At this month’s Art Box Gallery opening reception, we will welcome back outstanding local artist, Pam Nowak (pronounced “no-vack”). Stop by and meet Nowak and other fantastic artists and art minded people in the Art Box Gallery at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts’ free opening reception on Friday, Oct. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m., 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Appetizers, beer and wine will be served. Pam’s show will be on display throughout the month of October. 

When Nowak isn’t teaching art to local students, she spends her summers abroad in Italy, where she teaches English to young Italian students using art as the vehicle to learn another language. She always takes time to work on her own art and this summer she found a new source of inspiration. Here’s what Nowak had to say about her upcoming show and a hint about the subject matter, “Coffee is the universal language.”

“After multiple trips to Italy, where I was captivated each time by its beauty and art, I returned to California this summer with one longing: Italian coffee. Inspiring topics for my artwork in the past have been landscapes, architecture, monuments and ruins.  However, this time I have taken a colorful and whimsical jaunt down the path of Italian coffee culture. This idea ‘percolated’ as I deciphered different beverages and how to properly order a vital cup of espresso. It all came down to the instrument of choice for millions of Italians; the Moka pot. The small, two-piece machine that perks a strong cup of coffee was my inspiration blown up larger than life and colorfully painted with inks, oil sticks, and glitter pigments. As someone once said, ‘Life’s too short to drink bad coffee.’ I hope you enjoy,” Nowak said.

The Theater Gallery located inside the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts is also home to several Anchor Artists. See original works of art created by metal sculpture artist, Dude Green, indigenous jewelry and beadwork artist, Jesse Harris, photographer Kyoko Apperson and ceramist Drew Sallee.
