BIGGS, CA (MPG) - The Biggs Wolverines baseball team lost their chance to win the Mid-Valley League title as they were swept in their season series against the Los Molinos Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 30, through Wednesday, May 1.

Biggs and Los Molinos each had a league loss heading into their series last week, and Los Molinos pulled through with two big victories to take the MVL title.

The Wolverines were down 4-3 after six innings in the 11-3 loss on April 30, but an implosion of offense by the Bulldogs propelled them to the first victory of the series. Following the conclusion of the game, a major note this was after the final out was recorded and teams were shaking hands, one of the umpires did eject a Biggs player.

The player was not allowed to play in the series finale at Los Molinos on May 1.

In the 3-2 defeat on May 1, the Wolverines had a 2-0 lead as senior infielder Zach Smith and senior outfielder Tim Felkins combined for five of the Biggs six hits in the game and both runs-batted-in.

Wolverines Head Coach Allan Lee told the Herald the pitching performance by freshman Dennish Dewhurst was one of the best of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs capitalized on a couple of crucial errors that led to giving Los Molinos the lead and the momentum to hold on to the game and win the MVL title outright.

Biggs finished up MVL this past Monday where they beat Maxwell 8-2.

Wolverines junior pitcher Davis Long picked up the victory on the mound as he threw five innings, gave up two runs, six hits and struck out five hitters.

Long led off the sixth inning with a solo blast that shot over the left-field wall quickly to give Biggs their eighth run.

Wolverines senior pitcher/infielder Zach Smith tossed the final two innings and shut down any hope for Maxwell as he struck out five.

The victory gave Biggs the nod ahead in the MVL standings as both ended with a 5-3 league record, but with the Wolverines sweeping Maxwell, they get second place in league.

The CIF Northern Section lower division brackets were released on Wednesday, May 8, which is past deadline for the Herald, but Biggs will play in a playoff game today, Friday, May 10.
