GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley girls softball team ended last week on a winning note as they defeated the Corning Cardinals 10-4 on Friday, April 26, in a Butte View League matchup.

Gridley was beaten in their first two BVL games last week against Orland and Las Plumas where they were run-ruled in both games.

Lady Bulldogs freshman pitcher Kaydenze Pruitt picked up her second win on the season as she threw a complete game and she surrendered four runs off of two hits and a couple of walks.

Corning had a 2-0 lead after four-and-a-half innings. Gridley hitters were effective in putting the ball in play, but the Cardinals defense were able to make the plays.

All that changed in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Bulldogs erupted with a 10-run inning.

Gridley had nine hits in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 10 runs to cross the board, including five extra-base hits, and senior infielder Serenity Rossiter capped off the inning with a three-run blast to center field.

Rossiter was one of three Lady Bulldogs with a multi-hit game and led all hitters in the afternoon with four runs-batted-in (RBI). Additionally, all nine hitters for the Gridley lineup had a hit against the Cardinals.

Corning added two in the top of the sixth, but that’s as close as they would get, and the Lady Bulldogs secured the win in their second game in BVL play.

The Lady Bulldogs have three more games in league play and currently sit in fourth of the BVL with a 2-3 league record.

Gridley was scheduled to travel to Oroville this past Tuesday before they were scheduled to play a top ranked team at Colusa, yesterday, May 2.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Oroville on April 12 with an 8-5 victory.

No softball points were put out from the CIF Northern Section as of Sunday, April 28.
