GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley boys and girls basketball programs are looking to bring a Butte View League title back to the trophy case like they did in the 2019-20 season.

Boys’ Basketball

The Gridley boys’ basketball team took care of business last week as they extended their win streak to four games in a row over the Orland Trojans dating back to last season in a 74-53 victory on Tuesday, January 30.

The Bulldogs came out flat in the first couple of minutes in the game and had a few early fouls in the first quarter, but recovered and trailed by two points at the end of the first quarter.

Gridley sophomore guard Bikram Kullar (10) goes for a lay up in the Bulldogs’ 74-53 win against Orland on Tuesday, January 30.

Gridley didn’t look back after the first quarter as they outscored the Trojans 60-37 for the rest of the game. Bulldogs Head Coach Nathan Link used everyone available, and 11 different players entered the game.

Gridley had four players who scored in double digits and sophomore forward Bikram Kullar led the night with 19 points.

The Bulldogs were able to sink 13 three-point baskets through the night as they lit up the scoring sheet and also distributed the ball unselfishly as they had 19 assists on the night.

Gridley went on the road and beat Oroville 84-51 on Friday, February 2. The win set up a rematch and chance to avenge the long league loss they suffered against Las Plumas.

Girls' Basketball

OROVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Gridley girls basketball team avenged their two first-half BVL losses as they beat Orland and Oroville last week.

The 58-51 victory over Orland on Tuesday, January 31, never got too out of hand, but the Lady Bulldogs had three double-digit scorers in junior forward Brook Marr (30) , senior guard AnaGloria Luevano (10) and sophomore Aubree Weber (10).

One of the biggest differences in the game was that Gridley took better care of the ball as they committed nine less turnovers than Orland.

In the 58-43 victory over the Oroville Tigers on Thursday, February 1, the lady Bulldogs had a 15-1 lead at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Gridley was up by 18, but the lady Tigers scored the last 15 points of the quarter to make it a game.

The lady Bulldogs had 24 turnovers during the game and it was the first time they hit that number in the last couple of weeks.

Gridley will look to make history against Las Plumas on the road as the last time these two teams played on January 23, Marr scored her 1000 career point.
