GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley boys and girls basketball teams both just played one Butte View League game last week on Tuesday, January 16, where the boys beat Oroville 59-29 and the girls lost another close game 44-39.

The boys basketball team continued its dominance throughout the BVL as they were still perfect in the win over Oroville and improved to 3-0 in league play.

Gridley senior forward Kiko Castillo led the Bulldogs in the victory with 15 points. The biggest difference in the game was the Gridley defense.

The Bulldogs defense gave up nine points in the second and third quarter combined, along with a shutout in the second quarter.

Over that two-quarter stretch, Gridley scored 39 and opened up the game to a sizable lead.

Bulldogs sophomore guard Bikram Kullar led the defensive charge with six steals and added eight points, four assists and five rebounds throughout the night.

Gridley has their final road game of the season scheduled for tonight as they travel to Corning before they host Orland, Oroville and Las Plumas for the rest of their quest towards the BVL crown.

The girls’ squad loss to Oroville gave them a second consecutive five-point loss in league. Oroville had a wire-to-wire victory.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed big at the beginning of the game 16-3, and were able to tie it at 29, but once they tied the one time in the game, Oroville was able to keep a steady lead and hold off Gridley.

Lady Bulldogs junior forward Brook Marr led Gridley with another double-double as she had 22 points, 14 rebounds and nine blocks.

Lady Bulldogs senior guard AnaGloria Luevano contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Marr chased history as she could have been the sixth Lady Bulldog in school history to score 1000 points in her career.

Prior to the game this past Tuesday against Las Plumas, Marr was 11 points away from the mark, and if she was unsuccessful, she has another chance on January 26 to do it at home against Corning.

Marr would be the first girl in the Gridley program to hit the 1000-point milestone since 2021 alumna Kennedy Tull did it in the 2019-20 season.
