Live Oak Soccer Programs Continue Dominance in SVL

LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - Both of Live Oak’s soccer programs were successful last week as they both went 2-0 in Sacramento Valley League play and continued their dominance throughout the league from January 15-19.
The Lady Lions easily took care of Willows on Tuesday, January 16, where junior striker Johanna Petrone led the way with four goals. Senior midfielder Mckayla Holman continued her great passing skills as she added four more assists to her season total.

In the game on Thursday, January 18, versus Pierce, Lady Lions Head Coach Jose Acosta took out his starters at the end of the first half, as they were up 8-1 at the half and ended with the 9-1 victory.

Petrone put on another clinic as she added five more goals to her season total, added three assists, and the Lady Lions moved with ease all over the field.
The biggest compliment, on top of the extensive playing time the reserves get to play and continue gaining experience on the field, is the youth of the roster gains the exposure as the Lady Lions are expected to have a long postseason run.

The Lady Lions had their biggest game for the SVL title as they took on Winters this past Tuesday.

The boys’ soccer team easily took care of Willows 7-1 on Tuesday, January 16. with a 7-1 victory.
When the Lions beat a gritty Pierce team on Thursday, January 18, the two first-half goals were earned, and they played great physical defense to hold onto the victory.

Live Oak senior forwards Juan Acevedo and Noah Cuevas scored the two goals for the Lions in the first half as they had great spacing throughout the field to spread out the offense.
Pierce was a lot better than their record looked as the losses that Pierce did have were to competitive teams where the games could have gone either way against.

Moving forward for Live Oak, their fiercest competition for the league title will also be Winters as the two squads met for the first time this past Tuesday to round out the first half of SVL play.
Rudy Rosales, who is in his first year atop the boys program, has expressed to the Herald that the boys are in good sync with one another and are aiming to make another deep run in the post season.
