GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Throwing on jackets and shoes as fast as possible, children throughout Gridley prepared to brave the cold night air for the chance to catch a wonderful sight on Monday and Tuesday nights. Santa was coming!
Siren chirps, wails, and the sound of Christmas music could be heard approaching from off in the distance as Santa and his friends at CALFIRE/Gridley Fire Department and Gridley Police Department escorted the Kris Kringle throughout the Gridley area.
In order for every little boy and girl to have the opportunity to wave to Mr. Claus and the jolly caravan, the Santa Tour was split into two nights – the dividing line being Sycamore Street. The group embarked on the south portion of the tour Monday evening and finished up with the northern section of town Tuesday.
Santa and CALFIRE made this a special part of our local community celebrations 5 years ago after our area witnessed and stood by those who experienced the devastation of the Camp Fire. It has now become an integral and well loved part of our local holiday traditions.
Captain Dustin Mattos at CALFIRE Station 74 said, “We’re glad we can continue this tradition that started half a decade ago. We enjoy seeing the community while we participate in this event.” And no doubt, the excited smiles on their faces.
