GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley girls’ basketball team took third place in the Lady Bulldog Classic from Thursday, November 30 through Saturday, December 2 as they went 2-1, including two consecutive wins over the Woodland Wolves.
Gridley lost their first game to a competitive Alhambra 51-36.
Lady Bulldogs head coach Becca McCray told the Herald that Alhambra was a good team to compete with and Gridley gave it their all.
McCray said the Lady Bulldogs played well throughout the tournament.
“Following the game against Alhambra, I feel like we are starting to clique as a team,” McCray said.
Although Gridley lost two key components from last year's roster in 2023 guard Ella Sannar and 2023 forward Kennison Cota, McCray still has solid pieces.
Junior forward Brook Marr and senior guard AnaGloria Luevano are key returners for the Lady Bulldogs.

Gridley played well in the final two games of the tournament with easy wins over Woodland.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to get early leads over the Wolves and had the ability to pass the ball anywhere they would want too.

Even though Marr is able to get inside on the offensive end, defensively she is a blocking machine and averaged 4,6 blocks per game last season.
The pesky defense of Andes consistently getting her hands on the ball makes it difficult for opposing teams to get the ball inside the perimeter.
Eureka ended the 2023 Lady Bulldog Classic as the overall winner after their 74-29 victory over Enterprise.
Gridley hosted Wheatland this past Tuesday evening and began a competitive Oroville tournament on Wednesday night that will conclude tonight at Oroville High School.
