LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - Encinal Elementary School’s principal, Michelle Smith, has been named Principal of the Year, not only for Sutter County, but also for Yuba and Colusa Counties.

Smith has been with the Live Oak Unified School District for 22 years, teaching for 8 years, serving as Vice Principal of Live Oak Middle School for 6 years, and acting as Principal at Encinal for the last 8 years.

Encinal is one of five schools in the LOUSD, with an approximate student body size of 120 students ranging from TK-8th grades.

Smith was nominated by the Live Oak Administration Team, and after review was selected for the tri-county area award by the Colusa Sutter Yuba Association of California Administrators.

On Wednesday, April 19th, Smith was celebrated at an awards ceremony, receiving a plaque honoring and naming her a CSY TK-8 Principal of the Year.

Of her selection, members of her staff have said, “Mrs. Smith likes to say that she is the luckiest principal in the world, but we all feel like we are the luckiest teachers in the world to have such a wonderful principal and leader!”

Also awarded that evening was teacher Jenny Russell, also of Encinal Elementary School, who was named Educator of the Year.
