Red Suspenders Day Double Header

Gridley CA (MPG) - CALFIRE/Butte County Fire would like to invite everybody out to our Annual North VS South Fireman's Softball Game.

We have been hosting a softball game the Friday night before Red Suspenders Day since the inaugural game in 2003. In the past, the Gridley Fire Department has battled hard against the fine officers of Gridley PD in Guns Vs Hoses, but more recently we have turned up the heat with FIRE vs. FIRE!

Back in 2005, a handful of firemen from the Northern end of Butte County challenged the Fireman of the South County (a rough line would divide the county at HWY 149) to a slow-pitch softball game. The South agreed, and a back-and-forth battle ensued. 

In the nearly two decades since CALFIRE has been participating in games against various other agencies, there have only been a handful of North vs South Fireman's games. In 2022 the South tied up the record with the North at  2 wins a piece.

2023 will be a tie-breaking year, with either the North taking back the title or the South pulling ahead with their first-ever lead in the contest. 

This friendly competition is a good way for our local firemen to get together, get in a

little workout, build on their teamwork skills, and have a great time before fire season kicks off.

In addition to our Butte County game, we have been challenged this year by Sutter County Fire Department and we have accepted! The Butte County Vs Sutter County game will commence immediately after. We have a great working relationship between both departments, but our Fire Helmets will be coming off as we battle on the Diamond in what is sure to be a great game.
