GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley’s American Legion South Butte Post 210 is readying to celebrate their 100th anniversary in operation.

Just 4 years after the American Legion Organization celebrated their centennial, local Post 210 has hit triple digits. The exact date of the anniversary fell in the month of March, but due to weather and membership activities, Post 210 has held off on their celebration until now.

The community is urged to come out and support these veterans that have served in multiple branches of the military and the 100th birthday of AL Post 210. Special invites have been extended to area, county, and state officials in the hopes they too will help recognize the importance of the American Legion (AL) and its 100th anniversary.

American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, founded in part to advocate patriotism across the United States. Historically, the AL has always had a hand in helping others, especially Veterans. The AL helped get the GI Bill passed, securing rights, and protecting Veterans. The local chapter supports the community through donations, scholarships opportunities, and community service.

AL Post 210 Commander Owen Stiles says he is very proud of “being a part of a post that has been around for 100 years.” He continues, “It’s fantastic to see that these older organization like the American Legion and other organizations are still thriving, and our patriotism (is helping) people learn and understand the history of why a thing like the American Legion, established after World War I, is an important piece of American history.”

The American Legion South Butte Post 210 intends to honor its Posts 100th year and their members from throughout Biggs, Gridley and Live Oak in a ceremony to be held Saturday, April 29th at 1:00 pm. The free centennial celebration will take place in front of Gridley’s Veterans Memorial Hall and Post 210 invites all to the festivities, which will include a short program, cake and beverages.
