COLUSA, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak girls’ softball team dropped a double header to the Colusa RedHawks as they got swept in their Sacramento Valley League series last Thursday, March 23. They got beat 6-0 in the first game and 9-6 in the second game.

Live Oak head coach Kevin Mederios expressed to the Herald that the two games started one way and ended up the opposite.

“One mistake in a bad throw opened up the first game later in the game,” Mederios said.

Mederios shared  that Live Oak was down 2-0 until late in the sixth inning of the first game of the double header and a late throwing error contributed to the Lady Lions going from a two-run deficit to a six-run loss.

In the second game, Mederios exclaimed Live Oak was down nine runs until the last inning where they were able to generate a good offensive inning. Unfortunately, it was just too late.

Lady Lions sophomore pitcher Izabella Pacheco pitched six innings in the first game and surrendered five hits, six runs and five walks.

Live Oak (1-2, 0-2 SVL) struggled at the plate in the first game of the double header as they had 15 strikeouts as a team.

The Lady Lions were scheduled to host the East Nicolaus Spartans this week. Live Oak has lost the last 14 consecutive matchups to the Lady Spartans.

Mederios mentioned to the Herald that he and the Lady Lions had a conversation about the upcoming week games versus East Nicolaus.

Mederios said that the conversation was effective and he told his team that their main goal moving forward was to have fun and play a clean game, no matter what the outcome.

He added that junior shortstop Olivia Nanez leadership on the team has stepped her up to captain on this roster.

“She was my main source of communication in the games,” Mederios said. “She kept her teammates motivated and let them know where they were going on each play,”

He added that it was Nanez who started the spark for Live Oak at the plate in the second game when she led off the seventh inning with a double.
