GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley High School gave Disney Villains a run for their money this year with their Disney Villain themed Homecoming week!

Holding to the same recipe as years before, the week kicked off with Football Follies – the long-standing tradition of the Senior vs Junior Girls flag football game. Coached by the boys’ varsity football team, the ladies would battle it out on the gridiron, cheered on by the boys’ varsity cheerleading squad and JV boys cheerleading squad. The male cheer squads credited their moves to the GHS cheerleaders, who coached them in the role reversal. As for the football game, the Senior girls easily took the win.

A week of spirit days and fun activities planned by the leadership class would ensue. Holding to the Disney theme, spirit days included: Peter-Pan Pajama Day, Dalmatian Day (black and white), Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Day (twin day), and Disney Day. Friday, students would dress in Pink for Pink Out Day in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A special Tie-Dye activity was held Wednesday where students could dye a shirt for Pink Out Friday.

Tuesday through Thursday, students would spend hours after schoolworking on their class floats. The freshman build would pay tribute to the tentacled Ursula from the Little Mermaid. Sophomores would see red with their Cruella DeVil and 101 Dalmatians themed float and Sophomores would walk the plank with their Captain Hook float. It was the seniors with the Queen of Hearts float from Alice in Wonderland that would really make heads roll and take the win for 1st place.

The Friday morning rally would turn up the heat as the week wound down to GHS Homecoming Parade and the JV and varsity football games.  The Parade would roll down its familiar route, featuring the floats, cheerleaders, active sports teams, leadership class and more.

At 5:30 the football teams began their battle against the Oroville Tigers. JV would win their game 26 to 8. During the varsity halftime show, cheerleaders performed an amazing routine. Floats took their trip around the track and winners were announced. It was then time for the crown.

Homecoming royalty included freshman princess Audrina Trahin with escort Elie Punzo. The sophomore princess would be Charity Archer with escort Gus Stogsdill. The Junior Princess was Alexus Porcayo and her escort, Aaron Kullar. Queen candidates included Alicia Torres, Addison Busch, Karina Hernandez, and Charis Pantaleoni. King candidates included Jackson Nelson, Zen Opal, Angel Castañeda and Kendal Witt. It would be Angel Castañeda and Karina Hernandez who were crowned 2022 Homecoming King and Queen.

A homecoming dance would round out the week’s festivities and conclude GHS 2022 Homecoming.
