GHS Renaissance Dinner Revived for 2021

Nov 11, 2021 12:00AM ● By Heather Payne

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley High School (GHS) Band and Choir tradition of a Renaissance Dinner, Market and Faire will again be part of local 2021 fall festivities. Comedy, music, poetry, dance, and drama will play a role in the program for this year’s Renaissance Festival. Many students and festival goers will participate in the varied entertainment and will provide a night of lighthearted performances including the iconic song and dance, Men in Tights, to be performed by students and festival goers. The crowd will enjoy music from GHS Band and Choir, comic acting, fun, frivolity, and dancing, including a renaissance couples dance.

The castle guests can purchase treats from a tasty market of full of homemade breads, cookies, jams, roasted nuts, dried fruit, and many fresh local fruits and produce for sale. Be sure to bring your coins to give to the poor, but faithful, “Friar Tuck” who will “pass the plate” for your extra coins. Along with the delicious market foods for sale, you can also purchase homemade root beer or ask the Royal King and Queen to throw a family member, or friend, into the dungeon.

All castle guests will enjoy the visual atmosphere of knightly round tables, a regal castle library, a rich and elegantly decorated head table for King and Queen, the bounteous food and fruit of the rich fall market and faire, a natural Sherwood Forrest and the saucy pub and dungeon. An abundance of creativity brings to life this unique renaissance evening where costumes for knights, dragons, dukes, duchesses, squires, and princesses are encouraged. Come meet our new “Head Castle Minstrel” or music director, Ethan Jacobsen, and give him a warm welcome.

The GHS Renaissance Festival will be held on November 18th and 20th in the Gridley Guardian Building- 200 Spruce Street. Tickets are on sale at Gridley High School office, ACE Hardware and Childrens Hope Foster Family Agency.

All tickets are $15.00, and all proceeds support the Gridley High School Band and Choir. We will observe Covid-19 precautions with social distancing and precautions. Local sponsors include, Gridley Lions Club, Gridley Rotary Club, Kaleidoscope, Gridley Arts Council, North Butte Masonic Lodge #230, and Quota Club of Gridley, along with many community members, family and friends of the GHS Band and Choir students.
